What I learned after dumping a whole cup of water into my Soror’s boot

It was the day of our spring 2023 initiation and I was sitting in my chair, waiting for the ceremony to begin. I had gotten a concussion a few days before that, so I was drinking a glass of water to try to relieve some of the dizziness I had been feeling.

Since the chair next to me was empty, I sat my glass of water down on it. I must’ve forgotten I put it there because the next thing I knew my hand hit it, and it fell through the seat onto the floor behind me.

That would not have been a problem if the seat behind me was also empty, but it was not. A sorority sister I did not know, was sitting there, and the water not only went on her, it poured into her right boot.

I was so embarrassed! I apologized profusely, and went to get her a towel. The ceremony began, and then we celebrated with our 23 new sisters.

Even though that was a year ago, I have thought about that mishap many times.

This past weekend I attended my very first tri-state founders day. This is a day when Deltas from the tri-state area gather for a time of fellowship and learning. I decided to stay an extra night to write and relax, and the next morning took myself to breakfast in the hotel restaurant.

As I walked into the restaurant, who do I see sitting off to the left? The sorority sister I dumped water on almost a year ago. She noticed my @dstinc1913 , and we began to chat about the day before. I then asked her if she remembered me dumping water on her at the ceremony a year ago. She smiled, she had remembered it, but didn’t think about it since then. She did not even connect me with the person who did it! So while I had thought about it many times since, it went out of her mind the very same day.

I share this in case you have had a mishap that involve someone else. Maybe you have been thinking about it a lot since it happened? I encourage you to clear your mind today of whatever happened. Because I assure you, the other person probably has not thought about it since then!

Let’s Get Sentered: in clear minds!
