How an unexpected snack break at a professional workshop changed how I prepare for my own journaling workshops

I went to a workshop many years ago and when it was time for the snack breaks, instead of the usual table filled with brownies and cookies and chips and soda, it was instead filled with fresh veggies, fruit, and cucumber water!

Needless to say, some of the participants (self included! 😂) were not very happy. How could we truly strategize if there were no @hersheys kisses in the room? 😂

One of the attendees even went to the organizer and asked what made them decide on the “healthier” food. The organizer said they wanted to offer “lighter” fare because our brains would work more efficiently if they were not bogged down with sugar and carbohydrates.

And guess what? While I still wanted that chocolate break, when I reflect back on that day, my brain did seem to work more efficiently when it was fueled by healthier choices. 😂😂😂

The kisses came at the END of the session, proof of a job well done.

So now, when I am running my own gratitude/ writing workshops in the community, I offer several choices for snacks. Of course, I always have chocolate kisses, but I also have fresh fruit and veggies. This way people can make their own choice for how they want to fuel their bodies and brains.

Do you have a preference when you are in a training or workshop situation? Do you prefer to have healthy snacks? Or are you someone Who takes that time to enjoy some of your favorites?
